The role of the School of Volunteer Management (SVM) is to enhance the development of volunteering in the community by assisting organisations and individuals to maximise their potential through the provision of high quality education and training activities. The School is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and is the training arm of the Centre for Volunteering.
The education and training in volunteer and general management skills and issues and other training services the School offers includes:
Accredited Courses
Allowing individuals to obtain nationally recognised qualifications.
Customised Workshops
Designed to meet an organisations needs and delivered on-site.
Scheduled Courses
Courses on specific topics are scheduled from time to time and are conducted at the School and other locations. See Training News or SVM
E–News for details.
Individual Training
Helping individuals address their training needs by “piggybacking” workshops conducted for organisations or attending Scheduled Courses.
Training Advice and Assistance
Helping organisations gain maximum value from their training budgets by identifying training needs and developing a plan to address them.
Training Projects
Undertake these on behalf of organisations, e.g. developing training courses for accreditation.
In delivering these services the School utilises the services of its high quality and experienced training specialists and consultants.
The need for relevant, quality educational and training opportunities has never been greater in a sector exploring significant, rapid and increased demand for services. In 2004, 6.3 million Australians over the age of 18 years volunteered in Australia, contributing an average 132 hours of time per volunteer, or 836 million hours in total. In this environment, organisations require competent team members with the skills to provide sound, responsive management and innovative leadership.

New funding for youth training assessment
The SVM has been successful in its application for funding from the Department of Education Science and Training's Reframing the Future Skills Development Project. The funding will enable the School to support a number of our youth-involving member organisations by developing tools to assess their youth training programs.
Strategic Skills Program steps up
