Student Interviews
First Graduate of Certificate I in Active Volunteering
Angela Fu attended SVM's Certificate I in Active Volunteering (CAV) pilot course on Monday, 26 March at Mosman Council and, having successfully completed 30 hours of volunteering and submitted her assessments, she is the School's first CAV graduate.
Angela is employed as a travel consultant in the Sydney CBD and lives in Mosman. She volunteers for Mosman Library by delivering books to elderly women in the Mosman area. Angela became a volunteer to "be able to do something for other people who need help" and has gained much from her volunteering experiences. "It's a great feeling to be able to help other people. Also it's great to feel that I am in the community of volunteers."
What interested you in completing
the Certificate I in Active Volunteering?
CAV provides the opportunity to learn something systematically and gain the big picture about volunteering. It also gives tangible credit for something that we do for the sake of giving. It's great to be acknowledged in a formal way by earning the CAV.
What do you hope to gain from having a Certificate
I in Active Volunteering?
I will be able to do varied volunteer jobs in the future using the CAV as a reference.
What did you enjoy about the course?
It's a relaxed atmosphere to study, and a chance to get to know other volunteers. From the course I have learned about volunteering, especially about other volunteer jobs that are different from what I do. The course has covered many aspects of volunteering and it's very useful knowledge to learn.
What are the most important things you have gained from the course?
Yes, I've got some problems in understanding some of the questions in the student notebook when I tried to finish it, and I had to ask some other people about it.
Would you recommend the course to other volunteers?
Yes, definitely. It will certainly help volunteers to do a better job in the future.
